THE father of an eight-year-old girl who was almost kidnapped outside her house in a residential area in Kuching has taken to Facebook to tell of his harrowing experience.

Alan Lim recounted how the first day of school on March 11 was a “black day” for him and his family.

“My second daughter, Cherie, was playing as usual outside our house when she was kidnapped.

“I was in the living room and ran as fast as I could when I heard my eldest daughter, Cheryl, screaming in distress for me,” he said.

He said six children were playing together outside as usual and Cherie was suddenly abducted and forced into the front passenger seat of a Perodua Bezza.

“She was then locked inside. The neighbour’s children alerted their parents, and they quickly ran out and risked their lives by blocking the kidnapper’s car.

“I ran out barefoot and thought my daughter was hit by a car. When I realised what was going on, I managed to open the back door and with the help of a neighbour, fought with all my might.

“We pulled the kidnapper out of the car through the open driver-side window,” he said.

He recalled how the kidnapper even hit his neighbour’s hand with a steering lock when the neighbour tried to turn off the car engine.

During the commotion, Cherie managed to escape and ran towards her house.

“Once apprehended, the kidnapper even confessed to us that he was a sex maniac.

“I dread to think what could have happened if Cherie was driven away by the kidnapper.

“It has been a tough week for us, giving statements, up and down to the police station,” he said.

Lim said he was grateful to God and all his neighbours who helped prevent the kidnapping.

“I am writing this to help create awareness among other parents to pay greater attention to their children and their whereabouts,” he added. – The Vibes, March 18, 2024
