ALERT neighbours and the public prevented the kidnapping of an eight-year-old girl in a residential estate in Kuching.
A 30-year-old man was also apprehended during the incident on March 11.
Kuching district police chief Ahsmon Bajah said the girl was playing outside her house with five other children when the suspect suddenly drove up, grabbed her and forced her into his car.
"He tried to drive away with the victim locked inside, but luckily, alert neighbours and onlookers who witnessed the incident reacted quickly.
"They managed to block the car and alerted the police.
"The suspect was arrested and the girl was rescued unharmed," he said in a statement.
Bajah thanked those who foiled the kidnapping and helped rescue the girl.
The suspect who was charged with the kidnapping has also been referred to a mental hospital for evaluation pending his next appearance in court. - The Vibes, March 18, 2024
