A 73-YEAR-old man was pushed to the ground at a Singapore food court after he briefly patted a young girl on the head, in an incident that has since sparked a debate online.
The man, identified as Yeo Song Khoon, was walking with difficulty through the food court at Roxy Square on Saturday when he stopped at a table where a woman and her daughter were seated.
CCTV footage shared online showed Yeo briefly patting the girl on the head before the woman raised her hand towards him.
The girl’s father then approached Yeo, grabbed him by the arms and swung him around, causing him to fall.
Yeo’s son, Ray Yeo, who runs the Bei-Ing Wanton Noodle stall at the food court, later shared the footage on social media and appealed for information about the man involved.
He said family members rushed to help his father and were initially angry over what had happened.
But Yeo Song Khoon told them he was fine and did not want to take the matter further, his son said.
According to Ray Yeo, the man later sat down with his father, apologised and offered him a drink.
However, he said his father was now suffering from severe back pain after the incident.
The family has since lodged a police report.
Singapore police said on Sunday they had identified a 40-year-old man in connection with the case.
Police also urged members of the public not to speculate about the incident or its circumstances, saying investigations were ongoing.
The CCTV footage has since been widely shared online, with the incident prompting discussion about personal space, interactions with children and differing attitudes between generations. – August 17, 2026
