INVESTMENT, Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz has written to the high court seeking its permission to file an affidavit to correct “factual errors” in another affidavit linked to Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s bid for house arrest.

According to reports in the New Straits Times, Tengku Zafrul sent the letter via law firm Cecil Abraham & Partners to judge Datuk Amarjeet Singh’s office.

The law firm said it has been instructed by Tengku Zafrul to seek leave to file an affidavit to specifically address the averments contained in paragraph six of Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s affidavit to support Najib’s judicial review application.

The letter said that there were factual inaccuracies which ought to be corrected under the inherent jurisdiction of the honourable court and/or under Order 92 Rule 4 of the Rules of Court 2012.

“We are further instructed by our client to state that our client takes no position as to the merits of the dispute between the parties.

“Our client merely wishes to ensure that the facts are accurately placed before this honourable court neutrally,” the letter said.

On April 17, Zahid, the deputy prime minister, confirmed the existence of an addendum order from the former king allowing Najib to serve the remainder of his prison sentence at his residence.

The Umno president supported Najib’s claim in an affidavit filed at the Kuala Lumpur High Court on April 9.

Zahid claimed that Tengku Zafrul showed him the document on his handphone at his house on January 30.

He said the addendum order had the seal and signature of His Majesty Seri Paduka Baginda the Yang di-Pertuan Agong XVI. – The Vibes, April 22, 2024
