KUALA LUMPUR – Pasir Gudang MP Hassan Abdul Karim today offered himself to be the first in his constituency to be administered the Covid-19 vaccine.
In a Facebook post, he said this will instil confidence in his constituents, and Malaysians in general, that the vaccine to be used by the Health Ministry is safe.
“Let’s fight the Covid-19 pandemic together, so our freedom, independence and way of life are returned for us to live as a dignified society.”
Hassan is not the first lawmaker to volunteer to get the jab first.
On December 9, Kinabatangan’s Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin made the offer in the Dewan Rakyat.
“I offer myself as the first person to test this vaccine. I am not scared, and I want to be healthy.”
Malaysia will spend RM3 billion on Covid-19 immunisation for at least 70% of the population next year.
Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin has said the first 3% of Malaysians to receive the vaccine will be health and security frontliners, covering doctors and nurses, and police, prison and immigration officers.
The first batch of vaccines will arrive in the first quarter of 2021, he said. – The Vibes, December 17, 2020
