POLICE have sent the investigation papers on the alleged assault of a hearing-impaired e-hailing driver involving an escort for Johor Regent Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim to the Attorney-General’s Chambers.
Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said 12 individuals had been summoned to assist the investigation.
They included the alleged victim, the suspect, hotel staff at the scene when the incident occurred, members of the Police Special Operations Unit, the Johor regent’s team of drivers, the complainant’s friend, a doctor, and a Grab operations director.
“Although the complainant (victim) in this case has withdrawn the police report, further recorded conversation found that the complainant is still interested and wants to continue with this case.
“The investigation papers have been referred to the head of the prosecution division at 8.30am yesterday for further action,” he said when contacted.
He also stated that the suspect does not have any disciplinary record.
Last Friday, the IGP stressed that the police would conduct a thorough investigation based on recent developments and call in all officers involved in the case soon to assist.
Ong was called in by the Integrity and Standard Compliance Department this morning Ong, accompanied by Lawyers For Liberty lawyers Latheefa Koya and N Surendran, entered Bukit Aman at 10.45am.
In the May 28 incident, Ong, an e-hailing driver, lodged a police report the same day alleging he was assaulted by one of Tunku Ismail’s drivers while waiting for a customer at the St Regis Hotel lobby in KL Sentral.
Meanwhile, lawyer N Surendran said that cops have indicated that the escort who hit Ong is “attached” to the police.
“It’s an indication that has been given to us, you know, but confirmation of the identity and all that, I think we have to leave it to the police.
“They are conducting an investigation. I don’t want to say too much about that, but that’s the indication given,” said Surendran who is representing the 46-year-old victim. – June 5, 2024.
