KUALA LUMPUR – Covid-19 infections from a nursing home cluster, called Lestari – that was first detected on Sunday – were believed to have infected at least a dozen staff and patients at Serdang Hospital.
Quoting multiple sources from the public hospital, news portal Malaysiakini reported that the infection included nurses and medical specialists in several departments and wards, some of which were first detected early this month.
Among the affected departments are cardiology and cardiothoracic.
The Lestari cluster was announced on December 13. Several infections linked to it have been detected in the districts of Petaling, Hulu Langat, Klang and Sepang. It has 42 cases to date.
The situation in Serdang Hospital came after yesterday’s confirmation by the Selangor Health Department that 50 staff and an undisclosed number of patients at Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah, Klang, tested positive for Covid-19.
It was also reported that several departments in Serdang Hospital are under pressure as infected staff and those who had contact with them were placed under quarantine.
It was also learnt that some Selangor hospitals are imposing mandatory pre-admission Covid-19 tests. – The Vibes, December 18, 2020
