PKR PRESIDENT Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has confirmed that there was a discussion with Umno Supreme Council Member Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Aziz on the possibility of the latter joining PKR.
"PKR has always been open. Some of our leaders were once with Amanah or DAP before joining us, and similarly, others have moved to and from these parties.
"We have maintained a good relationship and made these transitions smooth," he told reporters after the PKR Congress in Shah Alam.
However, Anwar, who is also prime minister, said the discussions were still in the preliminary stages.
When asked whether Zafrul had formally applied to join the party, Anwar clarified that no application had been made yet.
Speculation has been rife that Tengku Zafrul is planning to leave Umno to join PKR in an apparent bid to become the next Selangor menteri besar.
However, Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said Tengku Zafrul has not informed him of any plans to leave, while PKR denied receiving a formal application from him.
Tengku Zafrul, who is the International Trade and Investment Minister, said earlier that he would issue a statement regarding talks of his possible entry into PKR. - December 15, 2024
