THE latest amendments to Parti Keadilan Rakyat’s constitution at the national front is a big boost to multiethnic and multiracial representations from the Borneo states of Sarawak and Sabah.
Sarawak PKR Senator Abun Sui Anyit, who is a PKR central leadership committee member, said the country is witnessing very important changes in PKR that will impact the national fronts.
Abun, who is PKR branch chief in Hulu Rajang in central Sarawak, today said the party passed a crucial amendment during its recent special congress.
"PKR Constitution Clause 17 was amended to include Clause 17B.
"Clause 17B says that every member from any ethnic and racial group has the chance to contest for and be elected as branch chairman and to other key posts during the annual branch election.
"This means that subsequently, they will be able to contest for higher posts at the state and national levels so anyone from any race and ethnicity can lead the party if he or she can garner enough support from the party delegates.
"This will essentially boost native representations not just at the Sarawak PKR level, but the national PKR leadership too," Abun told reporters here.
The latest party constitutional amendments demonstrate a very forward-looking and progressive development in PKR, he stressed.
The latest developments will also serve as a very helpful factor in the quest by Sarawak PKR to attract more members from the nearly 40 ethnic and racial groups in this vast state, he added. - December 18, 2024
