Air quality in 4 Sarawak areas hit hazardous levels

Air quality in 4 Sarawak areas hit hazardous levels

AIR quality in Sarawak continued to deteriorate, with four areas at hazardous levels today.

According to the Department of Environment’s Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) report, as of 6 am today, the Serian area recorded the highest reading at 471.

Samarahan recorded an Air Pollution Index (API) reading of 326, Sri Aman (323) and Kuching (319).

Three other areas recorded very unhealthy readings, namely Sarikei (259), Sibu (216) and Mukah (213).

Meanwhile, air quality in six other areas was at unhealthy levels, namely Samalaju (181), Miri (170) and ILP Miri (167).

Also at unhealthy levels were Bintulu (166), Kapit (164) and Limbang (159).

Under Malaysia’s API classification, readings above 300 are considered hazardous, while those between 201 and 300 are classified as very unhealthy. – August 31, 2026
