SARAWAK has completed its takeover of MASwings Sdn Bhd, said its premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg.
He said the state is expected to complete the signing before the start of the fasting month.
"All discussions on the takeover have been completed and the state will take over the airline from Malaysia Aviation Group," he said.
Speaking to reporters at the Majlis Amanat Perdana Premier Sarawak 2025 in Kuching today, Abang Johari said he was not certain where the signing would be done.
He also did not disclose the new name of the airline or the cost involved.
He said the acquisition, once completed, will position Sarawak as a gateway to Asean.
Last year, Abang Johari said Frankfurt, Germany would be among the six international destinations the state was considering.
He said the other destinations of choice were Korea; Japan; Hong Kong; Bangkok, Thailand; and Jakarta, Indonesia. - January 13, 2025
