PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim welcomed Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to the Perdana Putra Complex for a private meeting today, marking a key moment in their bilateral ties.
The meeting is part of Erdogan's two-day official visit to Malaysia, which began yesterday at the invitation of Anwar.
Following a nearly hour-long welcoming ceremony, the two leaders engaged in discussions focused on advancing the Malaysia-Turkey Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP), Bernama reported.
Among the primary areas of collaboration discussed were trade and investment, defence, halal industry development, energy, disaster management, healthcare, science and technology, and improving connectivity between the two nations.
Both leaders also delved into a range of regional and global issues of shared concern.
These included Malaysia's role as the current chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Turkiye’s upcoming hosting of the 4th Edition of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum in 2025, ongoing efforts to combat Islamophobia, and the recent ceasefire agreement in Gaza.
Since the elevation of bilateral relations to the level of CSP in July 2022, Malaysia and Turkiye have deepened their longstanding ties.
Türkiye, as an ASEAN Sectoral Dialogue Partner since 2017, has increasingly positioned itself as a key player in promoting ASEAN's economic goals.
The ASEAN-Turkey Practical Cooperation Areas (2024-2028) framework is set to further enhance strategic cooperation between ASEAN and Turkey in the coming years. – February 11, 2025
