PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has reaffirmed the government's strong commitment to driving institutional reforms aimed at enhancing transparency and efficiency in financial management and public administration.
During his speech at the monthly assembly with staff of the Prime Minister’s Department in Putrajaya, Anwar, who also serves as the Finance Minister, highlighted the ongoing reform efforts by the Ministry of Finance.
He pointed to the introduction of the Public Finance and Fiscal Responsibility Act, which enforces strict fiscal discipline.
"It may sound simple, but it is far from easy. Our commitments regarding deficit reduction and the budget must be met," Anwar explained.
"Not all countries are willing to undertake such measures, as it demands strong political will and determination for real reforms."
Anwar also underscored the importance of the Government Procurement Act, which ensures that government procurement processes remain consistent and transparent, even amidst changes in administration.
"The government may change, but the Act remains… the tender and procurement processes must be adhered to," Bernama reported him saying today.
On the issue of enforcement, Anwar expressed his gratitude for the improved performance of various enforcement agencies, including the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), the Inland Revenue Board, the National Audit Department, the Royal Malaysia Police, the Royal Malaysian Customs Department, and the Road Transport Department (JPJ).
"Alhamdulillah, I see these agencies executing their duties more effectively.
“The government, including the Cabinet, the Chief Secretary to the Government, and top civil service officials, fully supports them," he said.
"If there is room for improvement, we will make the necessary enhancements. I often remind them that even when we believe we've done well, there is always room for further progress."
Anwar said the drive for continuous improvement in administration aligns with Islamic teachings, referencing a hadith of Prophet Muhammad on the importance of efficiency and the pursuit of excellence, or *itqan fil amal* (perfection in deeds). – March 3, 2025
