EXPERTS from Netherlands specialising in water management issues are coming to Sarawak to help the state tackle water supply woes and floods.

Sarawak Deputy Minister for Public Utilities and Telecommunication Datuk Abdul Rahman Junaidi said these experts are expected to arrive soon.

"Sarawak has secured arrangements with the Netherlands government for them to send their water management experts to help us.

"The Netherlands are experts in managing their water resources and dealing with floods.

"They are also experts in water-sourced electricity generation and are helping four different regions throughout the world in these water management projects.

"Sarawak will be included in their list," he said after meeting Dutch Ambassador to Malaysia Jacques Werner in Kuching.

The help from Netherlands should go a long way in helping the Sarawak implement effective methods of flood prevention and mitigation in this state that is being plagued by worsening floods all year round.

The Netherlands have very good water management technology and methods of flood prevention and flood mitigation that have proven to be very effective in their home country in Europe.

"We are willing to share our methods of water management, flood prevention and flood mitigation to help Sarawak.

"We will be inviting several established private experts from our home country to come over to Sarawak soon for detailed discussions.

"The Netherlands and Sarawak can cooperate in this aspects as well as in other social and economic arenas," the Ambassador was quoted as saying during the meeting. – March 5, 2025
