EDUCATORS and religious teachers have been called upon to actively engage in educating the people about the importance of refraining from acts that insult any religion, as such actions could threaten societal harmony.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar said teachers hold a significant role in shaping the values of the community.
He said society places great trust in them to lead by example.
"If teachers can play their role in urging the community to refrain from insulting any religion, Insya-Allah, we can have peace in our country," Bernam cited Dr Mohd Na’im saying during his remarks at the Ziarah Santun Du'at Al Falah programme at Pondok Mustaq Sungai Jagong yesterday.
Dr Mohd Na’im highlighted the government's ongoing efforts to combat religious intolerance.
He reaffirmed that the authorities would continue collaborating with the police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to take firm action against those who demean or ridicule Islam.
He also called on both Muslims and non-Muslims to work together in fostering unity and promoting a peaceful coexistence, urging everyone to steer clear of any form of religious insult.
"Because if chaos erupts due to religious insults and similar issues, it benefits no one. We are also concerned that certain individuals may take advantage of the situation to incite unrest and discord in our society," he added.
In his earlier address, Dr Mohd Na’im encouraged Islamic religious educators to actively promote the*Membangun Malaysia MADANI message, ensuring that their teaching and propagation (dakwah) adhere to the core principles of Ahli Sunnah Wal Jamaah.
As part of his visit, Dr Mohd Na’im also contributed RM365,000 to Pondok Mustaq Sungai Jagong, distributing the funds to asnaf (tithe recipients), the elderly, and single mothers.
Dr Mohd Na’im ended his visit by reiterating the importance of religious leaders in promoting peace and harmony, stressing that their guidance could help safeguard Malaysia’s societal unity. – March 16, 2025
