Cleaner fined RM1k for filming stepdaughter while showering
Court tells accused stating his actions were ‘very severe’ – March 19, 2025

A 56-year-old cleaner has been fined RM1,000 by the Sessions Court today, after admitting to recording and possessing explicit videos and photographs of his 15-year-old stepdaughter while she was showering.

The accused entered a guilty plea when the charges were presented to him.

Judge Nariman Badruddin expressed strong disapproval of the man’s actions, stating, "Your actions are very severe. The court hopes you will repent and not repeat such offences."

He was charged under Section 10 of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which carries a maximum penalty of five years’ imprisonment or a fine of up to £1,700 (RM10,000).

The offences took place between 17th September and 21st December of the previous year.

The victim reported the incident to the police on 14th March, alleging that her stepfather possessed degrading images and videos of her.

Subsequent investigations revealed that the accused had filmed the minor without the knowledge of her biological mother, capturing footage on numerous occasions after she had taken a bath.

The girl discovered the recordings while clearing her stepfather's email storage.

Following her report, police apprehended the man and seized his mobile phone, which contained 18 videos and degrading images recorded within the specified timeframe.

During sentencing, the court stipulated that failure to pay the fine would result in a six-month custodial sentence. The defendant promptly paid the fine. – March 19, 2025
