PUTRAJAYA – Malaysia today hit the 2,000-mark in its daily Covid-19 caseload.
The Health Ministry reported 2,018 new infections, with one death.
It is the third-highest number of transmissions to be recorded in a single day since the pandemic began, said Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in his briefing this evening.
Malaysia’s death toll now stands at 438.
Another 1,084 recoveries were recorded, bringing the total to 78,393.
There are 109 coronavirus patients in intensive care, of whom 55 are on ventilators.
Selangor today has the highest number of cases among all states at 1,204, including one imported case. The Klang district alone has 675 cases.
Johor saw the second highest number of cases with 278, followed by Sabah with 247.
Kuala Lumpur registered 127 cases, with the next highest contributors being Negri Sembilan with 58, Labuan (29) and Perak (21).
Penang saw 18 cases, followed by Pahang (12), Melaka (nine), Kelantan (six), Putrajaya (five), Kedah (three) and Terengganu (one).
Sarawak and Perlis did not record any new cases today.
Dr Noor Hisham said of the daily cases, 243 came from prison and immigration depot clusters, especially the Jalan Harapan, Tembok Gajah and Tembok prison clusters.
He added that eight new clusters have been detected over the past 24 hours, which are the Pekapuri, Batu Besar, and Tower clusters in Selangor, and Pelangi construction site, Wawasan, and Delima clusters in Kuala Lumpur.
