NATIONAL footballer Faisal Halim is “understandably very disappointed” after the acid attack case that left him severely injured last year was officially closed without any charges, his legal representatives confirmed on Thursday.
In a statement issued by law firm Messrs Mohd Ashraf, Nik Zarith & Co, the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) has classified the case as “no further action” (NFA), citing the police's inability to identify a suspect despite what were described as “exhaustive efforts”.
“Our client is understandably very disappointed with the outcome,” the lawyers said. “Throughout the investigation, we took several proactive steps to ensure this case received the attention it deserved.”
The legal team added that they had fully cooperated with the Royal Malaysia Police and submitted formal representations to key authorities, including the Dewan Rakyat Speaker, the Home Ministry, and the AGC, to emphasise the seriousness of the case.
Faisal, 26, a prominent player for Selangor and Malaysia’s national football team, suffered serious injuries after being attacked with acid by an unknown individual outside a shopping mall in the Klang Valley on May 5, 2024.
The incident triggered widespread public outrage and prompted urgent calls for improved protection of public figures.
“Our next course of action will be determined in active discussions with our client,” the lawyers added, suggesting potential legal or advocacy efforts could follow in response to the AGC’s decision. May 8, 2025
