MALAYSIA has set an ambitious target to grow its franchise industry to RM100 billion in sales by 2030, aligning with the sector’s vast potential in the domestic market, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced on Thursday.

Speaking at the opening of the ASEAN Franchise Convention and the Malaysia International Franchise Exhibition (FIM2025) at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, Ahmad Zahid said the goal will be driven by the National Franchise Policy 2030, which focuses on market expansion, capacity building, and strengthening the local franchise ecosystem.

“We need to build a stronger, globally competitive franchise sector with a clear focus on achieving RM100 billion in sales by 2030,” he said.

Ahmad Zahid also highlighted the significant potential of the regional halal market, estimated at USD900 billion, which he said could be harnessed through the expansion of local halal franchise brands.

As Chair of ASEAN in 2025, Malaysia aims to position the franchise industry not merely as a business model but as a bridge for regional economic integration and a driver of social mobility for future generations.

Among the key initiatives proposed are the ASEAN Franchise Accelerator and the ASEAN University Franchise Challenge, which aim to nurture more home-grown brands for the regional market.

“The government is committed to nurturing more franchise leaders capable of bringing Malaysian brands to the international stage,” he said. - May 8, 2025
