PARTI Keadilan Rakyat Chang Lih Kang has confirmed that he will defend his post in the party’s central leadership election for the 2025–2028 term, set to take place at the end of this month.
Chang, who also serves as Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, said the nomination process had been completed and noted the high level of interest from party members seeking leadership roles this year.
“I have completed the nomination process and I will defend the vice-president's post,” he told reporters after launching the Mobile Hydrogen Refuelling Station Development Project earlier today.
When asked whether he was confident about retaining his position amid reports of strong competition, Chang said he welcomed the challenge as part of the party’s democratic tradition.
“I feel that this is a positive development. The more, the merrier. This shows that many are interested in getting involved in the party's leadership. I feel that's a good thing,” he said.
As of 11pm yesterday, nine party leaders had confirmed their candidacies for the vice-president posts in the PKR election scheduled for May 23.
Among them are fellow incumbents Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, and Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun. - May 9, 2025
