THE two-month-old baby boy at the centre of a suspected parental abuse case in Melaka is alive and in stable condition, contrary to claims circulating on social media, police confirmed on Friday.
Melaka police chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the baby is conscious, feeding normally, and currently under the care of medical specialists at Melaka Hospital.
“The claim that the baby has died is false. The baby boy may also be moved from the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) to a regular ward today, depending on the doctor's report,” he told Bernama after closing the Melaka Contingent Basic Light Strike Force (LSF) Course Series 1/2025 at the state police headquarters.
He added that the baby is now under the supervision of the Alor Gajah Social Welfare Department (JKM), as authorities continue their investigation.
Dzulkhairi said the investigation paper is nearly complete and will soon be submitted to the Deputy Public Prosecutor, with a proposed charge under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.
He also urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified information, warning that such actions could disrupt ongoing investigations.
On Wednesday (7 May), it was reported that a couple, both aged 22, had been remanded for seven days over suspicions of abusing their infant son at a residence in Taman Seri Pelangi, Alor Gajah.
Initial claims by the mother suggested the child had experienced seizures and lost consciousness, prompting a hospital visit. However, after the case was referred to Melaka Hospital, medical specialists suspected abuse based on examinations, including a CT scan, which revealed both old and recent injuries to the baby’s head, as well as bruises and wounds on his body and neck.
A police report was subsequently lodged by the hospital. - May 9, 2025
