AN unemployed man was charged in the Sessions Court here today with grievously injuring his elder brother by stabbing him with a stingray tail spine during a domestic incident earlier this month.

The accused, Mohd Izwan Sukarnor, 36, pleaded not guilty and requested to be tried after the charge was read before Judge Zulkifli Abllah.

According to the charge sheet, Mohd Izwan is accused of deliberately causing severe injuries to his 40-year-old brother, Mohd Fakhran, by stabbing him with a stingray tail. The alleged assault occurred at a house in Kampung Pauh Jabit Beris Kubur Besar, Bachok, at approximately 9.30am on 1 May.

He is charged under Section 326 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 326A, which provides for a maximum sentence of 20 years’ imprisonment, as well as a fine or whipping upon conviction.

Section 326A further allows for a sentence of up to double the maximum penalty if the offence is committed against a family member.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Kamarul Hasyime Rosli led the prosecution, while the accused was unrepresented.

The court denied bail and set 16 June for the next mention of the case. - May 14, 2025
