JASIN – Seventy five security personnel have been assigned to the Jasin Correctional Centre following the implementation of the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) in the area from today.
Melaka deputy police chief Datuk Shahrul Lalli Masduki said officers from the Royal Malaysia Police, the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) and the Malaysian Volunteer Corps (RELA) were assigned in rotation during the implementation of the EMCO there.
“The team working in three shifts will be on duty to enforce the EMCO at the centre, and there will be three members from each branch of the security forces per shift.
“Apart from the Jasin Correctional Centre, we are also placing members at the Jasin Municipal Council Hall in Lipat Kajang here, which is a Low-Risk Quarantine and Treatment Centre (PKRC),” he told Bernama after inspecting roadblocks at the Jasin Correctional Centre EMCO who was also attended by Jasin district police chief DSP Mispani Hamdan.
Meanwhile, state health and anti-drug committee chairman Rahmad Mariman when contacted by Bernama said a total of 35 medical personnel of various categories are working at the Jasin Correctional Centre while 25 staff from the Jasin Health Office are on standby if their services are required.
He said as of 12 noon today, a total of 603 prisoners and 103 prison staff had been screened while 41 prisoners were being treated at Sungai Udang Prison PKRC and another 87 prisoners were being treated at Melaka Hospital with seven of them having recovered.
As for the Machap Umboo Immigration Detention Depot in Alor Gajah, he said as of 12 noon today, 425 migrants and 57 Immigration Department staff at the depot had been screened with 148 positive for Covid-19.
Yesterday, Senior Security Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said that the EMCO will be implemented at the Jasin Correctional Centre and the centre’s staff quarters from today until Jan 4, involving 771 people, comprising 603 detainees and 168 staff and family members. – Bernama, December 22, 2020
