PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is expected to attend the 2025 state-level Kaamatan Festival celebration in Sabah on 30 May, marking his third consecutive appearance at the cultural event since taking office in 2022.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey G. Kitingan, who chairs the main organising committee, confirmed that Anwar will officiate this year’s festivities, which will take place at the Kadazan Dusun Cultural Association (KDCA) Hall in Penampang.

“The official closing ceremony of the Kaamatan Festival will be graced by Sabah Governor Tun Musa Aman on 31 May,” Jeffrey told reporters following a courtesy visit to the governor at Istana Seri Kinabalu.

The two-day celebration will feature traditional cultural performances, visits to ethnic longhouses, and the highly anticipated ‘Unduk Ngadau’ beauty pageant in the afternoon.

Jeffrey added that this year’s event would also see the participation of international guests, including delegates from Kalimantan, as well as ambassadors and foreign investors.

“Kaamatan is an important platform to stimulate Sabah’s economy. That’s why the government has allocated significant funding to support a variety of activities, not only in Sabah but also in Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia,” he said.

“Kaamatan is now recognised as a national-level festival and brings significant impact to the economic and tourism sectors.” - May 19, 2025
