NURUL Izzah Anwar, Deputy President of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), has departed for the Holy Land with her husband, Yin Shao Loong, to fulfil the fifth pillar of Islam by performing the Hajj.

The journey was confirmed in a short video posted early this morning on the TikTok account ‘Nurul Izzah’s Fans’, which showed the couple en route to Makkah.

Nurul Izzah had earlier expressed her intention to undertake the pilgrimage during her speech at the PKR National Congress last month.

Her departure comes shortly after a significant political achievement—securing victory in the party’s internal election on 23 May, where she unseated incumbent Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli to become PKR’s new Deputy President.

The pilgrimage is seen as a reflective pause before she returns to focus on fortifying party unity and intensifying internal reform within PKR.

According to party insiders, upon her return, Nurul Izzah is expected to play a more prominent role in unifying various factions within the party and rejuvenating its grassroots and youth engagement efforts.

This move is seen as part of a broader strategy to prepare the party for the upcoming 16th General Election (PRU16) and the Sabah state election, both anticipated in the near future. - June 3, 2025
