THE preliminary investigation report into the fatal convoy crash involving members of the Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) in Teluk Intan, Perak, will be presented to the Malaysian Cabinet next week, Transport Minister Anthony Loke has confirmed.

Speaking at a press conference today, Loke said the report, prepared by a special task force, would be submitted for Cabinet deliberation to determine the next course of action.

The task force was formed to investigate the deadly 13 May accident and includes experts and representatives from key government agencies. It is chaired by the Ministry of Transport’s Chief Air Accident Inspector, Brigadier General Tan Chee Kee.

“In the coming Cabinet meeting, we will present the preliminary findings to seek the views of ministers before deciding on further steps,” Loke said.

The tragic incident occurred on the morning of 13 May when a convoy carrying FRU personnel from Unit 5 Ipoh was involved in a crash along Jalan Chikus–Sungai Lampam. The officers were returning from duty at the Chitirai Pournami celebration in Teluk Intan.

Nine FRU officers lost their lives in the collision, prompting nationwide mourning and urgent calls for a thorough review of convoy safety protocols. - June 4, 2025
