A 12-MONTH-old baby girl was safely rescued by the Perak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) on Thursday afternoon after becoming trapped inside a car in the Kamunting Industrial Area.

According to JBPM Perak operations division assistant director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad, the incident occurred when the vehicle’s automatic locking system engaged while the child’s father was preparing a canopy for his business nearby.

“The incident was reported at 12.46pm, prompting the deployment of a nine-member team from the Taiping Fire and Rescue Station to the scene,” he said in a statement.

Upon arrival, firefighters found the infant securely locked inside the vehicle. Using specialised equipment, the crew managed to unlock the car within 10 minutes.

“The baby was successfully extracted and handed over safely to her family,” Sabarodzi confirmed.

There were no injuries reported, and the incident highlights the critical importance of remaining vigilant when young children are inside vehicles, even for a brief moment. - June 5, 2025
