THE Selangor state government has disbursed RM20,803.67 in insurance compensation from a student loan takaful protection scheme to the family of Ku Adib Aizad Ku Azmi, who died in a road accident near Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Dungun on 9 October last year.
In addition, the state has waived the outstanding education loan balance of RM15,050 owed under the Selangor State Scholarship Fund (TKWBNS), Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari announced.
The gesture, he said, was both an expression of sympathy and recognition of the late student’s academic commitment, as Ku Adib was also a recipient of a Yayasan Selangor scholarship.
“During my visit to the family on the night of the tragedy, I was informed that the deceased was a scholarship recipient. I pledged then to seek an exemption on the remaining loan – in line with existing practices such as with PTPTN loans when a borrower passes away,” Amirudin said in a Facebook post on Wednesday.
“Though nothing can replace the loss of a beloved child, I hope this small effort will ease the burden on the family,” he added.
“Al-Fatihah to the late Ku Adib Aizad and his two friends who also perished. May their souls be showered with mercy and placed among the righteous.”
The fatal crash occurred around 7.20pm outside the entrance to UiTM Dungun, where the students had just finished dinner and were returning to campus.
The victims, riding Yamaha Y15ZR and Yamaha 135 LC motorcycles, were struck by a Honda CR-V reportedly driven by a woman.
The accident claimed the lives of Ku Adib Aizad and Khairil Anwar Jamaludin, both aged 20, as well as Muhammad Akmal Md Tukirin, 25, who succumbed to injuries at the scene, including a fractured neck and trauma to the head and chest.
