KEY economic initiatives spearheaded under the leadership of Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli will proceed as planned, despite his recent resignation as Malaysia’s Minister of Economy. Leaders from the ruling Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition have reaffirmed the continuity of flagship policies such as the Central Database System (PADU), the Progressive Wage Policy, and the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK13).
Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) Chief Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim stressed that these were not individual undertakings but rather the outcome of collective government action.
“PADU was initiated by Rafizi, and the implementing agency is the Ministry of Economy. As such, the initiative will remain under the ministry’s supervision, so there is no cause for concern,” he told Sinar Ahad.
“I believe that any policy which has been agreed upon and delivers benefit to the people will continue to move forward.”
On the Progressive Wage Policy, he noted that it was still in its early stages and needed time to be evaluated comprehensively.
“The policy is progressing in line with current capabilities and requires time for a full assessment of its effectiveness. Implementation will naturally take time. There is no need to rush,” he added.
He was commenting on public concerns about the future of these policies in light of Rafizi’s departure from the Cabinet.
Echoing these sentiments, Hulu Langat MP Mohd Sany Hamzan stressed that leadership changes should not lead to wholesale policy shifts.
“The programmes or projects proposed may have originated from him, but they were executed through teamwork. Decisions would have involved the deputy minister, the secretary-general, and departmental directors within the ministry,” he said.
“Therefore, if these policies bring benefits to the people, the successor minister must continue them, regardless of who leads the ministry.”
He further underscored that a change in leadership did not imply the need to abandon existing frameworks.
At the same time, Mohd Sany confirmed that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had assured that the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK13), which outlines national development strategy from 2026 to 2030, will be tabled in Parliament starting 21 July.
“The government is prepared, and RMK13 will be implemented collaboratively,” he said. “This means that the draft will be prepared and completed accordingly.” - June 15, 2025
