THE Royal Malaysia Police have assured the public that Kuala Lumpur remains safe and orderly, despite two recent shooting incidents in Brickfields and Cheras that occurred within days of each other and were reportedly linked to specific criminal feuds.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said investigations indicated both incidents were not random but involved clearly identified targets stemming from ongoing disputes.
“As the Kuala Lumpur Police Chief previously stated, these cases are believed to be the result of existing enmities,” he said on Wednesday.
“I wish to stress that they were not indiscriminate shootings, but rather incidents with specific motives. The public should remain calm, as security in the capital remains under control.”
Razarudin said the Kuala Lumpur Police Contingent, in collaboration with other enforcement units, is actively stepping up patrols and operations to maintain public confidence and deter further incidents.
“Kuala Lumpur is still safe. The police are doing everything necessary to uphold public safety,” he added.
“We also encourage members of the public who may have any information to come forward and assist police investigations.”
The remarks come after two shootings were reported within four days. Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa previously stated that both incidents originated from disputes outside the federal territory but were brought into the city.
The first occurred in Brickfields on Friday, believed to be linked to criminal activity in Selangor. The more recent incident took place in the early hours of Tuesday, when two local men in their 40s were shot dead in front of a shopping complex on Jalan Loke Yew, Cheras.
Police believe that case was tied to smuggling operations in Sibu, Sarawak.
Meanwhile, Cheras Deputy Police Chief Superintendent Ridzuan Khalid confirmed that 18 individuals have had their statements recorded in relation to the Jalan Loke Yew shooting, which is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
Deputy Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad said the attack occurred at approximately 12:48 am, when a group of masked men in a Perodua Alza opened fire, killing the victims at the scene.
