DEPUTY Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof’s upcoming working visit to Uzbekistan and Russia is expected to broaden Malaysia’s international strategic partnerships in the energy and water sectors, according to the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA).
Fadillah, who also serves as Minister for Energy Transition and Water Transformation, will undertake the official trip from 21 to 28 June.
Bernama reported the ministry saying that the visit is aimed not only at enhancing Malaysia’s understanding of modern nuclear energy technology, but also at attracting foreign investment and advancing the goals of the MADANI government through constructive international engagement.
“This visit reflects Malaysia’s commitment to establishing global strategic alliances in addressing future energy and water challenges,” PETRA said in a statement. “It demonstrates the country’s proactive approach to exploring resilient and sustainable solutions through knowledge exchange, technology transfer, and foreign direct investment.”
During the Uzbekistan leg of the visit, from 21 to 24 June, Fadillah is scheduled to pay a courtesy call on President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, where discussions will focus on bilateral ties and the expansion of cooperation in energy and sustainable development.
A joint meeting with Uzbekistan’s Minister of Energy, Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov, will also be held to explore technical cooperation and investment opportunities in renewable energy initiatives.
Fadillah will then travel to Russia from 25 to 28 June, where he is expected to meet with Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak for bilateral talks centred on strategic collaboration in the energy sector.
He will also visit the ROSATOM Nuclear Power Plant in St Petersburg to review cutting-edge nuclear technologies and international safety protocols.
PETRA said the visit forms part of Malaysia’s broader mission to position itself as a forward-thinking nation committed to clean energy transition, long-term sustainability, and global partnerships in critical infrastructure sectors. - June 20, 2025
