A POST-mortem examination has confirmed lung injuries in a three-month-old baby boy who died after reportedly being trapped under his father’s arm during a suspected sudden cardiac episode at their home in Kampung Perigi Hang Tuah, Melaka.

Melaka Tengah district police chief ACP Christopher Patit said the injuries were consistent with restricted breathing caused by the overlay.

“The autopsy performed by Dr Muhammad Khairul Afizal found the case is currently classified as ‘pending laboratory investigation’, and several samples have been sent to the Chemistry Department in Melaka for toxicology testing,” he said in a statement issued today.

The incident occurred yesterday morning when the child’s mother, Azura Abdul Malik Yaher, 37, returned home intending to take her youngest of three children for a routine vaccination. She discovered both her husband and infant son unresponsive.

The father, Nuruleffendy Ibrahim, 35, was later found to have died of ischaemic heart disease.

“The post-mortem on the father showed one blockage and two closed heart valves, with no other external injuries,” ACP Christopher added.

The tragedy has been described as a deeply unfortunate case of accidental suffocation following the father’s sudden collapse. Investigations are ongoing pending full laboratory results. - June 20, 2025
