FIVE individuals have been detained in connection with the fatal shooting of a local man at a restaurant along Jalan Tun Sambanthan in Brickfields on 13 June, police confirmed.
Deputy Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad said the arrests were made around the capital on 16 June. However, all five suspects have since been released on police bail after their statements were recorded to assist in the ongoing investigation.
In a statement reported by Harian Metro, Mohamed Usuf also noted that no arrests have yet been made in relation to a separate shooting incident in Cheras, though efforts to identify and locate the suspect are actively underway.
“So far, we have recorded statements from 18 witnesses in the Brickfields case and 20 in the Cheras case,” he said.
Both incidents are believed to be linked to gang-related confrontations. According to police, initial background checks on the victims in both cases revealed connections to organised crime groups.
“The investigations are currently pointing to internal conflicts between rival gangs,” he added. “We are still conducting detailed inquiries to establish the full circumstances and identify all parties involved.”
