A MALE teacher was killed when the car he was driving veered off the road and crashed into a ditch in Kampung Teluk Sungai Durian, Bongor, yesterday afternoon.
In the 2.40pm incident, the victim, Saiful Yazan Hasan, 44, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Buletin TV3 reported the victim’s elder brother, Hamdan Jamil, 49, saying he was shocked to learn of his brother’s death in the crash.
“The last time I saw him was during Aidilfitri. I was informed that he was on his way back to visit our mother in Kampung Banggol Leban. The accident site is not far from her house,” he said.
Hamdan shared that his brother lived with his wife and two children in Sungai Petani, and was a teacher at Maktab Mahmud Kuala Ketil.
“He was always hardworking and would often return to our mother’s home whenever he had free time,” he added.
According to Hamdan, his brother had just finished clearing undergrowth at their mother’s orchard before the accident occurred.
“I’m still in shock and at a loss for words to describe the pain of losing a brother… I haven’t even told our mother yet because she’s still too upset,” he said.
He added that the victim is expected to be laid to rest at Kampung Bongor Batu 48 after all necessary procedures at the forensic unit are completed.
Meanwhile, Baling Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) chief Assistant Fire Superintendent Zulkhairi Mat Tanjil said the station received an emergency call regarding the accident at 2.48pm.
He said a team led by Fire Officer Ramdan Rusdan Fadhil was dispatched to the scene and found the victim still inside his Perodua Viva.
“The vehicle had veered off the road and landed in a ditch, causing the driver’s side door to become jammed,” he said.
“It took firefighters around 10 minutes to extricate the victim,” Zulkhairi added. - June 23, 2025
