THE runway at Kuching International Airport (KIA) has been closed following an incident involving a Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) aircraft earlier this morning, Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) confirmed.
The closure, which began around 11.30am, is to facilitate the removal of the aircraft and subsequent runway cleaning operations. A Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) has been issued and the runway is expected to remain closed until 3pm.
“During this closure period, all flight operations at KIA will be affected. Passengers are advised to check with their respective airlines,” said MAHB in a post on its official X (formerly Twitter) account on Sunday.
The airport operator added that updates will be provided once the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) declares the runway safe for operations and allows it to reopen. - June 23, 2025
