UMNO divisions are free to submit motions on any matter, including the suspension of former vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein, during their respective delegates' meetings, said UMNO Information Chief Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said.
Speaking after the launch of the 2025 National Financial Literacy Programme for Higher Learning Institutions at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Azalina said, “I believe anyone can submit a motion. That is their right.”
According to Bernama, she added that any motions submitted would be compiled and reviewed by the party’s leadership.
Her comments come amid renewed calls from UMNO’s Sembrong Division to lift the six-year suspension imposed on Hishammuddin since 27 January 2023.
However, Azalina clarified that the party has not yet received any formal application regarding the matter. “I haven’t seen anything submitted on this. Perhaps it’s being discussed at the party management level,” she said.
On 21 June, the Sembrong Division tabled a motion demanding the immediate and unconditional revocation of Hishammuddin’s suspension.
UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, responding to the development during the Batu Pahat Division’s delegates’ meeting, said the party would take the motion into consideration before reaching any decision. - June 23, 2025
