PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has announced that the Transitioning Industrial Clusters (TIC) initiative will be adopted as a national agenda, describing it as a strategic step uniting companies and public institutions to drive sustainable economic growth.
Speaking after chairing the third 2025 meeting of the National Digital Economy and Fourth Industrial Revolution Council (MED4IRN), Anwar highlighted the initiative’s alignment with the country’s green economy aspirations.
“I was particularly impressed with Sarawak’s presentation on developing TIC in Bintulu. Its potential contribution is significant—an additional RM12 billion to GDP, 19,000 new jobs, and a reduction of 21.35 million tonnes in carbon emissions by 2040,” he said in a post on Facebook.
“This effort aligns with the state’s aspiration for net-zero carbon and strengthens Sarawak’s position as a leader in Malaysia’s green industrial development,” he added.
The MED4IRN meeting also reviewed the implementation of GovTech Malaysia, including the MyGOV Malaysia application, designed as a unified digital gateway for public services.
“Through this platform, citizens can engage with various government agencies online without the need to queue at service counters.
“This demonstrates the Government’s commitment to delivering public services in a more convenient, efficient, and transparent manner,” said the Prime Minister.
In the same meeting, Anwar emphasised the importance of expanding the MyDigital ID programme to the private sector to ensure a secure, comprehensive, and trusted digital ecosystem for government affairs, daily life, and future business activity.
Separately, Anwar called on Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB) and Pelaburan Hartanah Berhad (PHB) to double efforts to enhance investment literacy among the population, particularly the Bumiputera community.
He also underscored the need to strengthen the domestic economy’s competitiveness in facing global uncertainty, while ensuring sustainable returns to unit trust holders.
“Perbadanan Usahawan Nasional Berhad (PUNB) must remain committed to empowering Bumiputera entrepreneurs through access to financing and support for capacity and capability building.”
“I stress that all agencies and government-linked companies mandated to develop Bumiputera interests must continue to lead policy implementation and act as the main drivers of government initiatives, especially through the Bumiputera Economic Transformation Plan (PuTERA35), which has already been launched,” he said.
Earlier, the Prime Minister chaired the Board of Trustees meeting for Yayasan Pelaburan Bumiputera (YPB) to assess the current performance of companies under the foundation’s purview. - June 23, 2025
