POLICE have detained a 31-year-old man and remanded him for seven days following the suspected murder of his 57-year-old father at their residence in Taman Tasek Damai on Tuesday.
Ipoh District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad, confirmed the suspect was being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
The victim was discovered lying face-up and covered in blood in the kitchen area of the house.
“Police received a report from a member of the public at 8.26pm regarding an unconscious man found at the rear of the residence,” said Abang Zainal Abidin.
He added that the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage at the scene was non-functional and no valuables were reported missing.
The suspect, who lived with the victim, said the last time his father responded to a phone message was at approximately 2.40pm.
“At around 7.30pm, the suspect returned from work to find the gate closed, the grille and glass doors open, and the living room sofa in disarray,” he said.
“The suspect claimed he then went to the kitchen and found his father covered in blood.”
Forensic examination revealed stab wounds on the right side of the victim’s abdomen and slash marks on the right side of his chest.
Authorities also recovered a 22-centimetre knife that had been cleaned, believed to be the murder weapon.
“The motive behind the incident remains under investigation. The police have seized the suspect’s mobile phone, a car dashcam, and a CCTV decoder to assist with the inquiry,” Abang Zainal Abidin added. - June 25, 2025
