ALL public and private institutions of higher learning have been instructed to strictly adhere to their respective safety Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), as part of intensified efforts to safeguard student welfare and security.
In a statement issued following the murder of a university student in Cyberjaya, the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) stressed that “consistent compliance with these SOPs is crucial to ensuring the highest standards of safety and well-being for students under university care”.
“This adherence is essential to provide comprehensive protection for students under the responsibility of higher education institutions,” the ministry added.
MoHE further reiterated its commitment to working with all relevant stakeholders to ensure universities remain “safe, responsible, and conducive environments for student development”.
The 20-year-old female university student who was from Sarawak was reportedly killed in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
According to police reports, the victim was discovered by her housemate at their residence in Mutiara Ville, Cyberjaya, with visible head injuries. Authorities confirmed there were no signs of forced entry, and preliminary investigations have verified trauma to the victim’s head.
Commenting on the ongoing investigation, the ministry said it is awaiting the full report from the police.
“The Ministry expresses its deepest condolences to the family of the deceased student and urges the public to refrain from speculation that could hinder the investigation or affect those involved,” it said.
It was earlier reported that the late Maniishapriet Kaur Akhara, 20, a female student at a private university in Cyberjaya was found dead in her home, believed to have been murdered on Tuesday morning.
The victim, who was originally from Sarawak, was found dead by a housemate with head injuries at approximately 10.28am in Mutiara Ville, Cyberjaya.
Sepang District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Norhizam Bahaman reportedly said police were analysing closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage in an effort to locate the suspect behind the murder. - June 26, 2025
