SELANGOR’S Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK), the youth wing of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), has strongly condemned a racially charged remark allegedly made by Pas Sungai Buloh chief Zaharudin Muhammad (pic) regarding the promotion of Datuk Johnny Lim Eng Seng to the rank of Lieutenant General in the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM).

Selangor AMK chief Muhammad Izuan Ahmad Kasim described the statement as more than a personal opinion, calling it a dangerous narrative that threatens social harmony.

“His (Zaharudin’s) insinuation towards Johnny Lim as a senior officer in the ATM is an insult to our national defence institution. Johnny Lim has served over 41 years with full dedication and was selected based on merit, not race,” he said at a press conference after lodging a police report at the Shah Alam District Police Headquarters on Thursday.

Muhammad Izuan urged both the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to investigate and take firm action against Zaharudin.

On Wednesday, media outlets reported that Pas was taking the matter seriously following a social media post by one of its party leaders which was deemed insensitive and potentially harmful to national unity.

Pas Secretary-General Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan clarified that Zaharudin’s remarks did not reflect the party’s stance and were shared in a personal capacity.

He further stated that Johnny Lim’s appointment as a Lieutenant General marked a historic achievement that should be celebrated, not questioned or belittled.

“Pas will not hesitate to take disciplinary action against any member who violates party rules or tarnishes its commitment to national unity,” Takiyuddin said in the statement.

Zaharudin is believed to have made a Facebook post earlier in the week questioning Johnny Lim’s promotion.
