A FATHER of six who was recently released from prison faces the death penalty after being charged in the Muar Magistrate's Court today on charges of trafficking ecstasy two weeks ago.

The accused, Lim Cheng Poh, 49, only nodded when the charges were presented by an interpreter before Magistrate Suzana Mokhtar.

However, no confession was recorded from the accused, who is also unemployed, as the case falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court.

According to the charge, the accused is accused of trafficking ecstasy powder weighing 6,389 grams (g), at a rented house in Taman Sri Treh, at 4pm, June 16.

The offence was committed under Section 39B (1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which is punishable under Section 39B (2) of the same act.

The accused can be sentenced to death or life imprisonment and whipping of not less than 12 strokes if not sentenced to death.

The prosecution was carried out by Deputy Public Prosecutor, Yasmin Mohd Piah, while the accused was unrepresented.

The court set September 25 for mention and for chemist report while no bail offer was given to the accused.

It was earlier reported that the accused and his 23-year-old son were arrested after the police raided his rented house.- June 26, 2025
