A DEVASTATING fire swept through Bagan Pasir Laut newar Bagan Datuk in the early hours of Saturday, destroying 23 structures including 21 homes, a food outlet and a temple.
According to Assistant Director of Operations at the Perak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad, the emergency call was received at 4.52am.
Firefighters from Hutan Melintang and Teluk Intan stations were swiftly dispatched to the scene.
“Upon arrival at 5.07am, more than five premises were already engulfed in flames. The close spacing of the buildings and low water pressure from the hydrants caused the fire to spread rapidly,” he said.
Fire suppression efforts were bolstered by the Sungai Tiang Volunteer Fire Brigade. The blaze was brought under control by 7.30am and the operation concluded at 10.45am.
Sabarodzi added that firefighters had to proceed with extreme caution as electricity was still flowing during the operation, posing a risk of electrocution.
“No injuries or fatalities were reported. The damage comprised 21 residential units, one eatery, and one temple,” he confirmed.
The total extent of the destruction is still being assessed as mop-up and safety measures continue. -June 28, 2025
