AN 18-year-old teenager with an intellectual disability was charged in the Magistrates’ Court here today with the murder of a 60-year-old man in Kampung Buluh, Gual Ipoh, last month.
Tuan Mohamad Izmal Firdaus Tuan Muda nodded in acknowledgment as the charge was read out before Magistrate Tun Faez Fikhrie, though no plea was recorded as murder cases fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
The accused is alleged to have murdered Shamsudin Mohamed between 6.00 and 6.30 p.m. on 19 June, near a grocery shop in the village.
He is charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty or imprisonment for a term not less than 30 years and not more than 40 years, along with a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane, upon conviction.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Siti Hajar Mazlan appeared for the prosecution. The accused, who was unrepresented, was not offered bail.
The court fixed 2 September for mention of the case. - July 1, 2025
