THE main suspect in the murder of a private university student in Cyberjaya is believed to have harboured malicious intent towards the victim, according to Selangor police.
Selangor Police Chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the suspect is thought to be the boyfriend of one of the two female suspects previously detained in connection with the case.
“Investigations revealed that the suspect had stayed at the condominium unit on several occasions with his girlfriend.
“The access card and keys to the premises were given to him by his girlfriend. Police do not rule out the possibility that the suspect had malicious intent towards the victim,” he said at a press conference at the Selangor Police Headquarters on Tuesday.
At the time of the incident, the victim was reportedly living alone as her housemates had returned to their hometowns for the semester break.
“The suspect took advantage of the situation. He used the access card given by his girlfriend to enter the flat when the opportunity arose.
“He is believed to have assaulted the victim with an object, causing injuries that led to her death,” Hussein said.
Responding to speculation of sexual assault, Hussein clarified that no evidence of rape had been found so far.
“Based on the pathologist’s report, no signs of rape were detected. However, police are still investigating to determine whether any such activity occurred,” he added.
Hussein also revealed that the suspect attempted to dispose of the victim’s belongings following the murder.
“The suspect discarded the victim’s mobile phone and disposed of her laptop, keys, and access card.
“However, several of these items have since been recovered by police,” he said.
The case was reported to authorities at 10.28am on Tuesday, following the discovery of the victim’s body at her condominium unit in Cyberjaya. Preliminary checks revealed no signs of forced entry.
The victim, aged 20, was a Bachelor of Physiotherapy student and had been staying alone since 21 June.
The murder investigation, described as swift by police, saw the case resolved within 48 hours after the arrest of four suspects, including the main suspect.
The arrests involved one male and three female individuals — the suspect’s girlfriend, a friend of the victim living in the unit above, and a third woman who was allegedly with the main suspect when a withdrawal was made using the victim’s ATM card.
It was earlier reported that the suspect had managed to withdraw RM200 from the victim’s bank account following the incident.
Sepang District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Norhizam Bahaman had confirmed that the arrests were carried out by police teams from Bukit Aman, Selangor Contingent Police Headquarters, and Sepang District Police Headquarters.
The suspects were detained in operations conducted in Johor Bahru and Gemencheh, Negeri Sembilan, between 9am Thursday and 2am Friday.- July 1, 2025
