A 59-YEAR-OLD retiree has lost RM90,541 after falling victim to an online investment scam allegedly linked to a company known as Habib Fun, according to police.
Kuala Terengganu district police chief ACP Azli Mohd Noor said the man was initially contacted via WhatsApp on 11 June by a woman he had previously befriended on Facebook.
“The suspect persuaded him to register for an investment, and he initially received a return of RM2,767,” Azli said in a statement today.
Encouraged by this early gain, the victim proceeded to make further investments amounting to RM90,541 across nine transactions to six separate bank accounts.
However, on 2 July, the victim received a message claiming there had been an error in his most recent transaction. He was told to pay a penalty of RM31,400 and was promised a return of RM432,000 if he complied.
Realising he had been deceived, the man lodged a police report at the Gong Badak Police Station on Wednesday.
The case is now under investigation under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating. - July 4, 2025
