THE royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) have detained the wife of a man who was fatally shot in an exchange of gunfire with police in Bandar Puteri Jaya on Saturday night.
Kuala Muda District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Hanyan Ramlan, confirmed that the woman, believed to be in her 20s, was arrested at the couple’s rented home near the scene of the incident.
“A pistol was recovered during a search of the residence,” Hanyan said during a press conference at the Kuala Muda District Police Headquarters today.
He added that the woman has been remanded for seven days beginning Sunday until 12 July to assist with further investigations.
The incident follows a shootout at around 7.50pm on Saturday, in which a 34-year-old man was killed. According to initial reports, the deceased allegedly engaged in a gunfight with police officers in the residential area.
Acting Director of the Criminal Investigation Department at Bukit Aman, Datuk Fadil Marsus, said the suspect is believed to have connections with two individuals who were shot dead earlier the same day in Jitra, Kedah.
The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code, which deals with attempted murder. - July 6, 2025
