A 73-YEAR-OLD man and his 36-year-old son have been remanded in connection with the death of an e-hailing driver in Taman Pandan Perdana, Ampang, following suspicions the incident was linked to unpaid debts.
Ampang Jaya district police chief ACP Mohd Azam Ismail said both suspects were detained between 26 and 28 June after a post-mortem revealed evidence of foul play.
“The case was initially classified as a sudden death. However, following the autopsy conducted at Ampang Hospital and after the report was obtained on 23 July, it was determined that there were criminal elements. The cause of death was found to be a bacterial infection in the muscles, resulting from injuries to the skin and bones,” he said in a statement today.
The police launched an investigation after receiving a report from an assistant medical officer at Kuala Lumpur Hospital regarding a death at the residential property. Officers who arrived at the scene confirmed that the victim had died there.
Among the items seized as part of the investigation were a bamboo cane and a pair of adjustable pliers.
Both suspects are currently unemployed and have been placed on a 14-day remand order from 27 June until Thursday to assist with investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. - July 8, 2025
