MALAYSIAN police have launched an investigation into a violent altercation involving a group of men at SkyAvenue, Resorts World Genting, after a video of the incident went viral on social media.
The 55-second clip, believed to have been recorded on Thursday, 10 July, shows several individuals engaged in a physical confrontation at the popular highland destination. The footage has since circulated widely online, prompting concern over public safety.
Bentong District Police Chief, Superintendent Zaiham Mohd Kahar, confirmed that two police reports had been received on Friday—at 11.49am and 12.50pm, respectively—regarding the incident.
“The case is being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting while armed with weapons,” he said in an official statement.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the identities of those involved. Authorities have urged members of the public who witnessed the incident or possess relevant information to come forward and assist police efforts.
“We urge anyone with knowledge of the incident to assist us. At the same time, we remind the public not to speculate, as the case is still under investigation,” Zaiham added.
No arrests have been made at this stage. However, police are actively reviewing the video evidence and collecting witness testimonies to locate the suspects.
Resorts World Genting operator, Genting Malaysia Berhad, has also responded, stating that it has filed a police report and is cooperating fully with authorities.
“We take this incident seriously and are giving our full cooperation to the police and the authorities in their investigation,” the company said in a statement.
Genting Malaysia further called on the public to refrain from making assumptions and to rely only on verified updates from official sources. - July 12, 2025
