A YOUNG civil defence officer who had just finished helping a road accident victim tragically became a casualty himself and succumbed to his injuries two days later.
“Just before the accident, he had helped another victim. Now he’s gone. He passed away this morning,” said Mohd Redzuan Mohd Kassim, 37, a close friend and colleague of the late Muhammad Armin Abdullah.
Armin, 22, an officer with the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) in Baling, was riding his motorcycle alone when he collided with a car at the Sungai Limau three-way junction near Batu 42 at around 5.30pm on Sunday.
“He was on his way to work after helping someone involved in a crash,” Mohd Redzuan said when contacted.
Armin was rushed to Hospital Baling with serious injuries and placed in the intensive care unit. Despite receiving treatment for two days, his condition deteriorated and he was pronounced dead at 5am today.
Redzuan, also a Baling APM officer, said he was devastated by the loss of a good friend, whom he had known for three years.
“We’ve shared many memories, especially responding together to floods and accidents. He was always cheerful and willing to help others in need.
“When we heard he was in a crash, we kept praying for his recovery. But God had other plans,” he said.
He recalled that they had recently attended a training session at Tasik Beris on 12 July, where Armin had been in high spirits.
Armin’s remains are currently at the Hospital Baling Forensic Unit pending a post-mortem examination.
Meanwhile, Baling District Civil Defence Officer, Lieutenant (PA) Mohd Faizol Abd Aziz, described Armin as a hardworking and dedicated member of the force.
“At the time of the incident, he was scheduled to serve as administrative support for a kayaking introduction training,” he said.
He confirmed that Armin suffered fractures to his left arm and leg in the accident.
