HOME Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has said that there is no verified evidence to support recent reports alleging that fugitive financier Low Taek Jho, better known as Jho Low, is residing in an upscale area of Shanghai using a fake Australian passport.
Speaking during a press conference after a working visit to the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC) on Thursday, Saifuddin confirmed that Malaysian authorities remain in active collaboration with international enforcement agencies in tracking Low’s whereabouts.
“The Ministry of Home Affairs, through the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), is maintaining close cooperation with international enforcement agencies,” he said.
“So far, reports regarding the individual’s (Jho Low’s) location and the passport he is allegedly using have not been accompanied by supporting facts or verifiable evidence,” Saifuddin added.
His remarks follow claims made in a live broadcast by investigative journalists Bradley Hope and Tom Wright last Friday, who alleged that Jho Low is currently based in Green Hills, an exclusive district in Shanghai, and operates out of an office in the Shanghai Financial Centre. They also claimed he uses a fake Australian passport and drives luxury vehicles.
However, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said on Saturday that he has not received any official intelligence confirming Jho Low’s current location.
“To date, the Malaysian government has not received any verified information on the matter,” Anwar was quoted as saying.
Jho Low remains wanted in connection with the multibillion-dollar 1MDB scandal and is the subject of an Interpol Red Notice. - July 24, 2025
